Dr. Grody is a Professor in the Divisions of Medical Genetics and Molecular Pathology at the University of California at Los Angeles(UCLA) School of Medicine and a national expert on testing for cystic fibrosis and other adult genetic disorders.

Dr. Grody is the Director of the Diagnostic Molecular Pathology Laboratory within the UCLA Medical Center - one of the first such facilities in the country to offer DNA-based tests for diagnosis of a wide variety of genetic, infectious, and neoplastic diseases, as well as individual identification and paternity testing by DNA fingerprinting.


He is also an attending physician in the Department of Pediatrics, specializing in the care of patients with, or at risk for, genetic disorders. In addition, he is heavily involved in basic molecular genetics research and instruction of medical students, graduate students, medical residents, and postdoctoral research fellows.

Dr. Grody has been one of the primary developers of quality assurance and ethical guidelines for DNA-based genetic testing for a number of governmental and professional agencies including the FDA, AMA, College of American Pathologists (CAP), American College of Medical Geneticists (ACMG), American Society for Human Genetics (ASHG), National Committee on Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS), CDC, NIH-Department of Energy (DOE) Human Genome Project (ELSI program), and the California Department of Health. He served as a member of the recently culminated NIH-DOE Task Force on Genetic Testing, and is currently chairing two ACMG working groups developing recommendations for nationwide screening for cystic fibrosis and factor V-Leiden mutations. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics (Clinical Genetics, Molecular Genetics, and Biochemical Genetics) and the American Board of Pathology (Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
, Molecular Genetic Pathology).
